FrSky Taranis X9D Special Edition 2019

First time ordering from Progressive RC. They didn’t say that it came with a soft case and LiPo battery! It’s my first FR Sky radio as I’m transitioning from Spektrum to Open Tx. My interests are DLG gliders, small electric scale & foamy 3D planes. I’m a 72 yr old boomer so I don’t know Jack about drones except for some rudimentary consumer quads I’ve got. With all of the flexibility of this radio I can see why drone pilots choose them. It’s slow going for me but those of you raised on computers should get it quicker. Progressive was FAST and my order arrived a day early. Highly recommend the product and the dealer! I’ll be checking them first for future purchases…

Ist time buying an FR Sky radio having been a Spektrum guy since they were founded. I'm switching from small electric planes and sailplanes to DLG (Discus Launch Gliders) now and FR is leading the field in small lightweight receivers for F3F gliders. A big % of the better DLG pilots are all doing FR Sky and Open TX now, So I had to come over to the dark side.
I've got a few consumer grade drones but thinking about experimenting with FPV so the Taranis X9D Plus SE might come in handy for that. Anyway this post is about Progressive RC and the super service and FAST shipping. Great price, Great service and shipping and it got here are day early. What's not to like? I've got them bookmarked now and will be getting what I can from them going forward. Highly recommended....

I have to say with the spread of TXs available to us these days, it's hard to know what the best is. I recommend getting your hands on each of them if you can locally.

I have a Radio Master TX16s and a Tango 2. I can say without a doubt, the FrSky Taranis is superior when it comes to the build quality when compared to the TX16s.

The M9 gimbals are very smooth and feel nice.
Compared to the TX16s Gimbals which are inconsistent in more than one way. On the TX16s one gimbal sits higher than the other, they each travel more in one direction than the other, and they feel very cheap. With the X9D+ SE they are more solid feeling and travel is identical in all directions, they also feel smoother without the sound of springs twanging.

Plastics, switches, ergonomics... in my opinion are better on the Taranis. Other than the huge color screen, there is nothing the TX16s really does better. I never see that screen when flying, so I had no issues giving it up.

I don't care about all the hate surrounding FrSky right now. The TX is great, and I don't fly much D8 or even any ACCST or ACCESS devices, I just use Crossfire and Tracer. I just feel it is better than the TX16s.

Get what you pay for, and I think you are getting a better built TX with FrSky.

I ordered a FrSky Taranis X9D SE 2019 (Carbon Fiber) from Progressive RC after searching the web for price and availability. Progressive had the lowest price I was able to find, and having dealt with them before, knew how fast their service was. I placed the order on a Sunday evening, and had the package by Tuesday morning.
